    - Providing remote solutions to enhance safety and support maintenance for container vessel

    - Collaboration with EVERGREEN and ClassNK to validate key technologies for SROC

South Korean Shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) announced the official opening of its state-of-the-art Samsung Remote Operation Center (SROC), delivered to Taiwanese container shipping company EVERGREEN. This milestone marks another significant achievement in the longstanding partnership between the two organizations, which have collaborated for many years to advance cutting-edge smart ship technologies.

The newly inaugurated SROC enables real-time monitoring of a wide range of vessel information, strengthening maritime safety and operational integrity. The SROC also provides shore-based maintenance support, facilitating efficient inspections, immediate troubleshooting, and rapid repair processes - ultimately reducing downtime and improving fleet reliability. Furthermore, the SROC forms an important step in preparing for the future of autonomous ship, as it incorporates and validates technologies required for the remote support and operation of next-generation vessels.

During the development of the SROC, SHI worked closely with both EVERGREEN and ClassNK to validate key technologies. Through mutual review of the CONOPS and comprehensive risk assessments, the project successfully obtained Approval in Principle.

“As strategic partners, we have consistently pursued innovation in next-generation maritime technologies together with EVERGREEN,” said Jong-ung Choi, Autonomous Ship Research Center Director of SHI. “This SROC is a reflection of our shared commitment to safer and more efficient ship operations. We will continue working closely with EVERGREEN to expand shore-based operations, enable more efficient regular inspections, and contribute to optimized crew deployment.”

“We highly appreciate SHI`s efforts to promote cutting-edge smart ship technology, which also lays an important foundation for the future of autonomous vessels and remote operation.” Said Eddie Pai, Junior Vice President of Seafarer Training Center of EVERGREEN. “We will continue to work closely with SHI, embodying innovation and excellence in the pursuit of safer and more efficient vessel operations.”

Looking ahead, SHI will continue strengthening its cooperation with EVERGREEN to further shift traditionally onboard tasks to shore-based environments. This collaborative effort is expected to play a crucial role in improving inspection efficiency, maintaining seamless operational continuity, and supporting the long-term evolution of autonomous ship technologies.

The opening of this SROC signals a major step forward in shaping the future of smart maritime operations and reaffirms the commitment of both companies to innovation and excellence.
